    Parents of children with special needs or whose education calls for accommodations are welcome to come join our discussion group at the library. Darla Rance, a librarian at Helen Hall Library and parent of an adult deaf son, will be the moderator. Parents and caregivers of all ages of children all the way from diagnosis to adulthood are encouraged to come be a part of this group. Discussions will be informal and be focused on sharing our experiences and strategies for what has been effective or not as productive for the different families. We will share book ideas (inspirations or helpful titles that were invaluable along the way), successes, failures and any other information people feel comfortable talking about. Our children are children first, not a diagnosis or label that has been given. This group will be a casual and safe place to add your voice to as you feel comfortable.

  1. PER-243 Primary Screener/Personal Radiation Detection (PRD)

    (7-TCOLE Hours) This 8-hour instructor-led, exercise-based course is designed to train the Preventive Radiological/Nuclear Detection (PRND) mission using a personal radiation detector (PRD) to perform a preliminary radiological assessment. Responders operate PRDs to detect radiation, verify the radiation alarm, localize the source of radiation, measure the radiation level, and assess the threat status of the situation. Participants employ PRDs to help adjudicate potential threats regarding situations with people, vehicles, packages, and facilities. Additional information regarding PRND operations in maritime environments is available and included as needed. Sealed radioactive sources are used during drills and practical exercises. These sources are intended to simulate types of radioactive material that may be encountered in the public domain. Course content includes a primary screener’s role in the Global Nuclear Detection Architecture and the National Preparedness Core Capabilitie

    This course will help better prepare an individual who is taking the IAI Certification Test by providing and reviewing hundreds of sample questions pertaining to crime scene examination and analyzing. The number one reason why most crime scene investigations fail is because of inadequate crime scene processing. Working a crime scene, whether minor or major, is a process that involves a wide range of skills. This course was developed as a refresher workshop for crime scene officers, or for the new officer with limited exposure and experience in crime scene processing. the detection, collection, documentation and preservation of physical evidence are key elements involved in every crime scene.
