On Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 5:45 p.m. as Sergeant Dan Mercurio was on his way into work, he observed a motorist who was driving recklessly and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was stopped at a local gas station in the 1500 block of East Main. Sergeant Mercurio observed the female driver of the vehicle exit the car with an unconscious six year old child. Medical aid was given and the child was transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and later to Texas Children’s Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was the mother of the child.
League City investigators discovered the child has serious brain trauma and significant internal injuries consistent with abuse and not due to an accident. The mother’s boyfriend, 26 year old suspect Evan David Nolan of League City, was the recent caregiver of the child. Nolan was arrested after League City detectives, patrol officers and agents with the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force searched for him throughout League City. The arrest took place on Thursday, August 18 at 3:09 p.m. when Nolan was observed driving his vehicle without a driver’s license in the 3800 block of East FM 518. He was charged with no Driver’s License. Charges were also accepted for Injury to a Child, bond $250,000.
Detectives are still investigating people of interest at this time and it is unknown if other charges will be filed.
