A message from City Manager John Baumgartner

A message from City Manager John Baumgartner:

Dear League City community,

As the City of League City recovers from an emergency situation where we received nearly 50 inches of rain, I want you to know that the City of League City is focused on the well-being of every person in our City and the surrounding communities. We will continue to do everything within our power to restore our City and all of the services to pre-flood capacity.

While many of our citizens did not incur damage to their homes, unfortunately many were displaced due to high waters and were taken to local shelters. League City in conjunction with the Red Cross will continue to offer shelter to those needing it. We have begun the shelter consolidation process by transferring the shelters with the smallest population to Hometown Heroes Park.

Yesterday, President Trump included Galveston County in the Declaration of Disaster. This means individuals may apply for FEMA assistance. The City of League City encourages all citizens who have been affected by the flood event to go to the FEMA website and begin the application process. You can find this website address on the City of League City website and Facebook pages.

At this time, our water and wastewater systems are operational. I would like to re-assure you that the quality of our water has not been compromised and remains safe to drink. As the storm water recedes, we will continue to inspect our drainage systems regularly and remove debris. If you see areas needing attention, we encourage you to call 3-1-1 so we can address your concerns.

Regular trash services for household waste will resume on Friday, September 1 for those who receive Tuesday- Friday services. Residents who normally receive trash services Monday-Wednesday can expect trash pick-up beginning on Labor Day. Please make sure to segregate your household waste from your storm debris to assure timely pick up.

We are actively working to schedule flood debris removal options with our contractor, Crowder Gulf. As many of you begin the restoration process, we realize that you may have a large amount of debris to be removed from your house or property. Please contain your debris to your yard or driveway as close to the curb as possible until it can be picked up by Crowder Gulf. Any debris in the street can block the drainage system. Details regarding this service are being developed and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The City will resume regular operations on Thursday. Hometown Heroes Park and the Civic Center will remain closed as they are being used for storm-related activities. Helen Hall Library will open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will close on Sunday and Monday for Labor Day.

During the restoration of our community and your homes, many of you may be contracting home repairs. Our past experience during restoration after natural disasters would indicate that there will be an influx of contractors. Make sure you know who you are doing business with before making a payment.

Please continue to monitor our website and Facebook page for regular updates.

League City is and will always be a resilient and close-knit community where we take care of each other in times of need. We will persevere to do what is necessary to make sure our citizens have access to all available City resources. Together, we will pick up the pieces and rebuild. I'm confident that League City will come out on the other side a better, stronger and closer community. Thank you for all you do to keep League City great!

Warm regards,

John Baumgartner
City Manager
