The League City Fire Department responded to a chemical spill on FM 1266 (Tuscan Lakes) between League City Parkway and FM 646 around 10:30 a.m.,Tuesday, July 17. Traffic on 1266 was closed in both directions for several hours as crews cleaned up up the spill.
Extreme pressure, exacerbated by the region's high temperatures, caused the valve of a tanker truck carrying used sulfuric acid to pop off. A small amount of liquid leaked into the ditch on FM 1266 and some gas was released into the air next to a large vacant field.
Fire and Rescue reported no injuries and no danger at any time to nearby residents or citizens.
Another tanker was brought in to dispose of the chemical and the road was reopened for traffic in the afternoon.
