Sign Ordinance Revision

UPDATE: A summary of changes to the proposed sign ordinance are provide in a presentation on the Planning webpage under 'NEWS'. On Thursday, August 19th, 2010, staff will conduct a roundtable discussion with various business and sign professionals in the area to present the proposed ordinance and discuss their concerns. The meeting will be held at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center at 400 West Walker Street in League City.

On May 24, 2010, the Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustment held a joint workshop to kick-off the first round of discussions regarding a revised Sign Ordinance, which regulates new and existing signs throughout the City. The Commission and Board members along with the business leaders and citizens that were present heard a two-part presentation from staff relating to the purpose and goals of the Sign Ordinance and alternatives to advertise other than signage, different types of signage throughout the City and the format of the new ordinance. Feedback was primarily positive with a bulk of the conversation relating to Light Emitting Devices (LED signs), enforcement capabilities and the quality of signs being constructed. Staff will analyze the feedback and begin preparing a full draft of the ordinance. Notice of the next meeting has yet to be determined.
