Garbage Rate
Pursuant to the solid waste and recycling agreement with Republic Services approved by City Council in December 2012, residents will see an increase in garbage charges (and the accompanying sales tax) effective February 1, 2014. Residential bills are to rise a total of 88 cents per account per month, with the base rate moving from $10.40 to $11.22 (neither figure includes the City’s 30-cent processing fee). As sales tax is charged on this service per state law, the change in the base rate will also generate a six-cent increase per month in sales taxes on the service (from 86 cents to 92 cents monthly). Customers will be notified of this upcoming increase on their water bill.

February 1, 2015 Rates will increase to the base rate of $13.30; plus the garbage tax of $1.06 for a flat rate of $14.36. These incremental increases are accompanied by reductions in the rates charged to local businesses, and are to gradually align charges for service between residential and commercial customers to better reflect the true cost of service.

As of Feb. 15, 2017, the residential garbage rate is $17.66

The City of League City competitively bid the solid waste franchise in 2012.All of the bidders proposed a cost increase for solid waste services for both residential and commercial service. The current rate increases are the first adjustments in over 5 years essentially 2.2% per year since the last adjustment which is close to the increase in the CPI.  In trying to balancethe rate adjustment in the bid and looking at the “true cost of service” (around $13 per month) the current rate was approved in the contract with Republic Services and and is being implemented.
