Calder Road

Calder Rd map.jpgDescription
This is a joint project with Galveston County.

The County is responsible for the design and a portion of the construction - up to approximately $4,038,000.

League City is responsible for obtaining additional right-of-way and covering construction costs exceeding the County's construction budget.

The project will convert Calder Road from an open ditch rural roadway to a concrete-curb and gutter enclosed storm sewer roadway.  The roadway will travel from I-45 State maintenance at Calder and Turner approximately 5,600 feet south to Ervin Street. The right-of-way on Calder will need an additional 30 feet for a total of 80 feet.

Proposed pavement section will consist of three lanes (two travel lanes; one center turn lane).

Why does League City need it?
The improvements are needed to help move anticipated north-south minor arterial traffic between League City Parkway and FM 517 and provide additional access to/from commercial properties lying between Calder Road and IH-45 (south of League City Parkway).

The City has entered into an interlocal agreement with Galveston County for the Calder Road portion of this project.  Calder Road is one of three roads included in the agreement; the other two roads included are Louisiana Avenue and Caroline Avenue.  Proposed improvements along Turner Road and Butler Road are not included in the interlocal agreement or in this phase.

Additionally, Galveston County has committed $10 million of county funds towards the design and construction of this road, Louisiana Avenue and Caroline Street.
