Improved mobility, new attractions and economic development, and improvements to the Main Street/Historic District area are among the topics to be highlighted at a "New Directions" Open House event on Wednesday, March 23, from 6-8 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center.
Local residents and businesspeople are invited to join City staff and elected officials to review this new vision for the future of League City, fulfilling the charge established by City Council to "plan responsibly and act decisively."
Over the course of the past year, League City residents and business owners spoke about their concerns, how they wanted to live and their thoughts about the future of League City. The resulting vision for the community includes dynamic destinations, a vibrant Main Street, gathering places, attractive neighborhoods, adequate infrastructure, trails and a cohesive and marketable identity.
To achieve this vision, League City embarked upon a number of studies that allowed staff to understand and address many of the pressing issues facing our community from responsible growth and flooding to economic development and traffic. Looking at all of the issues together allowed a rare opportunity to truly glimpse "under the hood" and devise a series of solutions based on a common vision.
The results of this initiative, based on citizen input and best practices from other communities, are to be presented at the March 23 event. The open house will include the 2035 Comprehensive Plan, a new Branding, Development and Marketing Action Plan, the Economic Development Strategic Plan, efforts to improve Main Street, updates on status of mobility and infrastructure plans, as well as other completed and ongoing studies.
