Activities for Children Ages Birth to Five
Baby in ChuteStory Time
The library hosts story times for three different developmental levels in the Susan Mathews Memorial Theater:
  • Toddler Story Time: Ages birth to two
  • Preschool Story Time: Ages 2 1/2 to five
  • Pajama Story Time: Ages three to six

Seating is limited for story times; therefore free tickets will be passed out fifteen minutes before each program begins. Programming is for individuals, not for groups or day cares.

Preschoolers at Play
On most Wednesday mornings, there are activities for children who are two through five years of age. The rotation includes Art on a Cart, Science for Little Explorers, Build It, Fit ‘n’ Fun, and special programs that feature puppeteers, theater groups and other entertainers. See the current brochure for the specific schedule.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Helen Hall Library's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to success! The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading skills such as understanding the sounds letters make, developing a bigger vocabulary, and building background knowledge-all important skills that help prepare your child for learning to read and entering kindergarten. Any child ages birth to five years can participate. Register at the Children's desk in the library.

Summer Reading Program
The summer reading program is a program that encourages children to read or to be read to by their parents. Prizes, certificates, and other incentives are offered for the number of hours spent reading or being read to. You can also look at the books recommended by the library.
