Prepare a Kit

The basics of your kit should include: 

176990809.jpg• Ready-to-eat canned meats, soup, fruit and vegetables. 
• Can opener and other utensils.
• One gallon of water per person, per day.
• First Aid Kit that includes your family's medications.
• Battery powered radio, flashlight, and extra batteries.
• Sanitation and toiletry supplies.
• Special items for infants, elderly or disabled family members.
• Clothing and bedding.
• Cash or travelers checks. 
• Waterproof container for important documents.
• Cell phone with charger, inverted or solar charger.
• Food, water, and medication for your pets. 

Remember to have enough supplies to last your family at least five days.

1. Pick up a preparedness magnet and hurricane survival guide free at the Hurricane Info Center at the Library. 
2. Printable check list from ready.gov.
3. Interactive tool that will give you your supplies list based on your family. 
4. A list of appropriate food for your home emergency kit.
5. Items for a First Aid Kit.

7. Buy a prepackaged kit from your local Red Cross chapter.
