Epilepsy Awareness Month


WHEREAS, Epilepsy is a neurological condition affecting the nervous system producing seizures; and 

WHEREAS, Epilepsy is diagnosed after a person has two or more unprovoked seizures and it is estimated that 2.2 million people are affected by the condition in the United States. Early recognition of these seizures and proper treatment reduces the risk for additional seizures, disability, decreased health-related quality of life and in rare cases, death; and

while epilepsy can affect all ages, it is most likely to occur for the first time in young children and older adults and each age group has unique concerns and problems and must face challenges related to managing epilepsy treatment, symptoms, disability, lifestyle limitations, emotional stress and stigma; and

I, Pat Hallisey, by virtue of the authority vested in me as the 10th Mayor of the City of League City do hereby declare November 2016 as  

“Epilepsy Awareness Month”

in the great City of League City.
