Ogden "Bo" Bass

Assistant City Manager Bo Bass keeps a busy schedule whether he’s in or out of the office. From indulging himself in science fiction literature to exploring the outdoors by offshore fishing or duck hunting, the former Boy Scout has a full list of interesting hobbies.

As an Assistant City Manager, what are your responsibilities?

I am privileged to work with the Engineering, Public Works, Planning & Development, Economic Development, and Parks & Cultural Services Departments as well as help coordinate and implement the City’s Strategic Planning Process.

What do you enjoy about your job?

Problem-solving with smart, uniquely capable professionals. Doing the right thing.

Do you have any goals as Assistant City Manager?

To support the City Manager in leaving both this wonderful community, and its talented municipal staff, better than when we found it.

Where are you from? How did you decide to move to League City?

I was born and raised in Freeport, Texas. I had been wanting to come back to the Gulf Coast and share more time with my family for many years. The opportunity to work with John Baumgartner opened the door that made that possibility a reality.

What is your background?

Academically, environmental science, urban & regional planning and land development. By experience, flora, fauna and fieldcraft. Also auto mechanics, small engine repair and the ability to keep myself busy tinkering with bits and pieces of things all day in the garage.

Past jobs/education?

Paperboy, lifeguard, welder & pipefitter’s helper, chemical plant worker, mowing crew leader, bus driver, land development consultant, planning & development director, graduate school professor, deputy city manager, assistant city manager, and most importantly, father. I have a bachelors’ degree and two master’s degrees from Texas A&M University. I simply couldn’t get enough of that “Fighting Texas Aggie Spirit.”

Tell us about your family life:

My two daughters are a true and lasting blessing in my life. My parents a guidepost and refuge. I am the eldest of five brothers and sisters. You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Science fiction literature & cinema, impressionist period art, heroic & romantic poetry, antique cast iron cookware, deer & duck hunting, inshore & offshore fishing and avid tinkering. 

Fun fact about yourself?

I was a competitive swimmer and I surfed in my younger days.
