What do you do?

I lead a team that helps make dreams come true!

Tell us about Butler’s Courtyard:

We are a wedding and event venue in the heart of League City. We get to help families celebrate all their biggest milestones in life!

When did Butler’s Courtyard open and how did you decide to open it?

My mom and her friend Janice were running the weddings at another venue in Alvin and really wanted to go out on their own so they could have 100% control. They had a strong mission to make sure families got to enjoy their weddings and not be stressed out or work really hard to make sure the couple did. So in 2003, my parents and their business partner started Butler’s Courtyard. I have worked here in some capacity since it opened. A small family business means we wear ALL the hats, and I took on the role of Office Manager in 2007.  My sister and I purchased the business in 2017 so our mom, dad and Janice could retire and we could continue their legacy.

What makes Butler’s Courtyard so unique?

We have so many qualities that make us unique! The obvious one is our historic building and the beautiful Butler Oak trees that surround it. The biggest thing that sets us apart from other venues is the family aspect. Not only have we been family owned and operated since opening, but we really treat our team members and vendors as family and that translates to treating our couples like family. We are truly full service making sure every detail is handled from start to finish. It is rare for a wedding venue to have full houses for the wedding party to utilize all day and our most recent unique touch is our new Love Lock opportunity in the Secret Garden.

You’re a recent graduate of the League City Citizen University, what did you think of the program?

I LOVED it! Honestly, when I joined, it was just to maybe schmooze with some city officials. I didn’t really know and I hoped to learn a few things, but I learned so much about the day to day running of League City. It was very interesting and I’m sad it is over. I highly recommend anyone living in League City take the opportunity to attend these classes. What a great gift the city gives us in offering that!

Any organizations you’re a part of?

Butler’s Courtyard is a founding member of the Bay Area Wedding Professionals, involved in the League City Chamber of Commerce, we are members of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and do whatever we can to support and participate in the League City Historical Society. I am currently serving on the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board for the City which has been really interesting for me. Personally, I am a very active member of the Bay Area Mothers of Multiples, finishing my 2nd term on the board this year. My husband and I are also two of the founders of Houston’s Gaelic Athletic Club which is a thriving Gaelic football club. We enjoy being part of the Irish community here in Houston attending Irish cook-offs, participating in the St. Patrick’s Day parade every year and supporting the Gaels any way we can.

Tell us about your family life/hobbies:

My husband of 11 years is from Ireland and I’m very proud because he recently became an American Citizen! We have five-year-old twin girls that keep us very busy with Irish dance, gymnastics, soccer, ballet and tap, school and camps. Between the girls’ activities and running Butler’s Courtyard I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies, but I do feel as a woman it is important for me to remember to take time for myself, so I make sure every week is balanced with “me” time. I enjoy some guilty pleasure TV shows, I like to read and I try to carve out at least a couple hours each week for time with my girlfriends. We’ll grab lunch at Holly Berry or go for a glass of wine and just unwind. I also love traveling, even though I don’t get to very much in this season of life.

Fun fact about yourself?

I love camping on the Comal River and every year take my girls and a group of friends to camp at the exact same campground my family camped on when I was a kid.

Favorite thing about League City?

The family legacy we have here! My grandparents had Thrifty Supermarket in the 60s and 70s, my dad is extremely active in various groups and organizations and then obviously because I’ve always had a big love for trees so I have to say the trees are definitely one of my favorite things!!

Any restaurants near the venue which you like to recommend to clients?

Oh yes! We love Holly Berry for lunch, Main Street is great, Esteban’s and of course Red River BBQ is a MUST. We’re very excited for the new restaurant next door, Rustika, to get going too!

Tell us about your Valentine’s Day ceremonies you offer:

We know a lot of people elope at the courthouse on Valentine’s Day and that makes us a little sad because we feel every couple should have a memorable experience. Dads should have the opportunity to walk their daughters down the aisle and everyone should have beautiful photos of the moment their marriage begins so, we came up with the idea to have a day full of elopements and celebrate love! For $100, they got to come to Butler’s Courtyard and get married, we had Magek Photography here taking pictures, Divisi Strings played as they walked down the aisle, our friends at Kendra Scott - Baybrook donated a lovely jewelry set for us to raffle off and Cakes by Jula gave everyone a personal size wedding cake to take home and enjoy. We’re working on even more surprises for next year’s Valentine’s Day. It was such an incredible day to see 12 marriages officially begin! To our knowledge, that is a record for League City and we hope to do even more next time.

How far ahead would you recommend booking?

Anywhere from 6 to18 months. It depends on what season they want or if they HAVE to have a specific date. Basically, as soon as you know where and when, you should lock it in.

Approximately how many weddings are you doing per month?

In our busy months, we will do 10 or more! This year, we currently have 91 full-size weddings on the book so far. That doesn’t include all the pop-ups/elopements or any of the special events we will host.

Any other special events you would like to mention?

Everyone in League City needs to know about our Annual Block Party and Food Truck Festival! We really wanted to throw a fun event for our neighbors to come and enjoy the venue without having to get married or attend a wedding. We have food trucks, music, raffle drawings, a cash bar, photo camper and even a balloon artist to entertain the kiddos! We do that every September and hope it continues to be an annual tradition for everyone to enjoy.

Anything you would like to add or that you feel people should know about the business?

We also produce events at The Old Fig Factory! It is another little historic building about 3 blocks from us that is just perfect for smaller events and gatherings such as showers, rehearsal dinners, family celebrations, company Christmas parties, etc. You still get the Butler’s Courtyard customer service we’re known for but now in two locations!
