The City of League City’s Recreation Department recognized Drew Moreno and Anna Soles as the 2015 Male and Female League City Athletes of the Year on Feb. 23, 2016.
The athletes, who were selected from the City’s Youth Sports Program, were presented plaques during the City Council meeting.
Soles, 11, was selected as Female Athlete of the Year for her great attitude and involvement in the League City Parks and Recreation softball and basketball program. She demonstrates leadership both on and off the playing field and constantly encourages others to get involved in sports. During a two-day state tournament, she pitched and won three games that contributed to her softball team finishing third in the state tournament. She also played point guard for the 10U basketball team who won the League City tournament and advanced to regionals. Soles has participated in the City’s programs since she was 6 years old.
Moreno, 12, was selected as the Male Athlete of the Year for his sportsmanship and participation in the League City Parks and Recreation basketball program throughout the last three years. He serves a role model for other athletes within the program by displaying character, unselfish play, and respect for his teammates, coaches and the referees. The program has helped him develop key leadership skills through his willingness to help younger players and those with less experience – such as his younger brother’s team. He was also a member of the 2014-2015 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation basketball team from League City who won the 12U State Championship in Waco, Texas.
