Mayor Pat Hallisey declared Dec. 13, 2016 as ‘League City’s 49er’s Junior Football Team Day’ during a recent City Council meeting.
A proclamation was presented to the team’s coaches and players on Dec. 13 for ending their regular football season 12-0, earning a spot to compete in the Bay Area Football League Super Bowl, and winning the Super Bowl game.
The team also earned accolades for the character the team exhibits off the field.
“For all the team’s athleticism and savvy on the field, it’s their character, respect, brotherhood, and maturity off the field that is their greatest attribute,” said Mayor Pat Hallisey. “The team decided to make an 8-year-old boy, who dreamed of playing football and was unable to due to a medical condition, an honorable member of the 49er’s, and then presented him with a game jersey and an opportunity to score a touchdown during a game.”
League City Councilmen, Nick Long and Hank Dugie, also presented the proclamation to the football team.
