League City is kicking off Independence Day a day early with a July 3 fireworks show at the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex. The following day, families can celebrate the Fourth of July at a citizens’ celebration and a children’s teddy bear parade in downtown League City.
July 3 Fireworks Extravaganza
The League City Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by AmeriWaste, will run from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Davis Sportsplex, located at 1251 League City Parkway. Admission to the event is free. The fireworks extravaganza will feature 14 food trucks, live music and entertainment, a play area for the kids, craft and artist booths, and a fireworks show that will start promptly at 9 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets. Coolers are welcome, but pop-up tents are not allowed.
Public parking will be available at the Sportsplex on a first-come, first-served basis, so residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and arrive early. The City is providing a downloadable event map which includes entrance and parking information. In addition, complimentary shuttle buses will be available at Hometown Heroes Park starting at 5 p.m. and will transport riders to and from the Sportsplex.

July 4 Citizen Appreciation Day Relocated Indoors
Due to a high chance of rain and thunderstorms predicted for Wednesday, July 4, the annual League City Citizen Appreciation Day has been moved indoors to Hometown Heroes Park located at 1001 E. League City Parkway.
The free event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature activities for the whole family and complimentary hot dogs served by League City Council and Parks Board members, the Mayor, and City staff. Free watermelon, popcorn, and cotton candy will also be available.
UPDATE: THE TEDDY BEAR PARADE HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER. In addition, residents are encouraged to have their children or grandchildren decorate their bike, scooter, wagon or anything on wheels in red, white, and blue and take part in the annual Teddy Bear Parade. Rain or shine, the children’s parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the League City Historical Society, located at 210 North Kansas, and run along 2nd Avenue to League Park. Individual prizes will be awarded for children ages 0 - 16.
