Parks staff members were given an award for the Bark Park during the 2019 H-GAC Parks & Natural Areas Award Ceremony on February 14. The award was given for the ‘On-the-Ground Project Under $500,000’ category. The H-GAC Parks & Natural Areas Subcommittee established the Parks Award Program in 2006 to highlight best practices and innovative approaches to parks planning and implementation. Winning entries demonstrate best practices and collaboration between developers, local government, engineering and planning agencies, businesses, resources, environmental groups, and citizens.
In addition, Parks staff received the TRAPS Gold Medal Award from the Texas Recreation and Park Society. The award honors a Parks and Recreation Department for excellence in the field of recreation and park management for three years (2016-2018).
