[ARCHIVED] EMS Comes to Bay Colony Full Time

EMS Bay Colony

When residents of the Bay Colony neighborhood and surrounding area call 911 requesting emergency medical services, an ambulance stationed at Fire Station No. 5, located off 646 and Bay Creek Drive, responds to the call.  This, however, is a recent occurrence.

Before 2020, emergency calls to the Bay Colony neighborhood were handled by an ambulance stationed at Fire Station No. 2 on Hobbs Road. The distance from the station to the neighborhood produced an average nine-minute response time. In January of this year, an ambulance was stationed at Fire Station No. 5, but only during daytime hours because the station has no sleeping quarters. Paramedics work 25-hour shifts and need to rest when not on emergency calls, so in the evenings, the ambulance relocated to Fire Station No. 2 which has sleeping quarters.

Last month, a modular building previously being used by Animal Control, was moved to Station No. 5. Thanks to the quick work and collaboration of League City’s Facilities, Public Works, and IT Departments, the building was turned into sleeping quarters for the paramedics so they can remain at the station 24/7. Since the permanent move , response times have already dropped by three minutes.
