[ARCHIVED] Telecomunicator fo the Year

Picture of Megan Votaw Telecommunicator of the Year

On 10/05/2020, Telecommunicator Meagan Votaw was assigned to the League City  Communications Center, when she received a 911 call from a visibly hysterical caller.  During this call, the female indicated to Meagan, that she wished to end her life and that she was no longer had any reason to live. While obtaining vital information from the caller, Meagan was also able to speak with her and was able to quickly and successfully get her mind off wanting to commit suicide.  Meagan accomplished this by speaking with her about unrelated topics and just provided the caller with a listening ear. With Meagan being able to successfully do this, League City Police and League City EMS  were able to safely get to the caller and get her the appropriate help she needed. The caller continued to thank Meagan for taking the time to speak with her, listen to her,  and relating with her. Meagan’s quick and professional actions resulted in a suicidal caller ultimately not hurting herself and provided the caller with the appropriate help she needed.

Communications Supervisor Brandon Scott stated that "Meagan Votaw exemplifies customer service skills daily. She constantly goes above and beyond for citizens in a time of crisis, making sure that she can provide them with all the help and information that they need. Meagan is a very selfless person and is quick to make sure that the needs of the citizens of League City come first. She is viewed by the department as one of the best the city has to offer."
